Accident concerns Residents call for traffic lights

1/07/2008 4:00:00 AM
GLENHAVEN residents fear the traffic congestion at the intersection of Old Northern Road and Glenhaven Road is an accident waiting to happen.

David Baker, president of the Glenhaven Residents Association, said the traffic is becoming increasingly worse and it is a safety hazard for drivers entering and exiting the intersection.

``The situation has been aggravated by the completion of the Glenhaven bridge and it will be further aggravated by the Kellyville North development,'' Mr Baker said.

``The increase in traffic in that area will be significant. We just want to ensure something is done sooner rather than later.''

He said the intersection is the only main intersection in The Hills that does not have traffic signals.

``Every other major intersection has either lights or a roundabout. We shouldn't be asking for traffic signals they should be already there.''

Robyn Preston, who has been a Glenhaven resident for 20 years, said the traffic is worse in the morning peak.

``I take my son to school at Oakhill College and because of the traffic congestion I am forced to find an alternative route, like many others,'' Ms Preston said.

``It's a problem because where we have to go is infringing on quiet residential areas and those residents don't want traffic through their street, but it's the only safe route. The intersection is so dangerous.''

Baulkham Hills councillor and Hawkesbury MP Ray Williams said he will be ``putting the pressure'' on the State Government to ensure traffic lights will be installed.

``It's an absolute nightmare and a set of traffic lights would be the ultimate

solution,'' Cr Williams said.
