IT'S been a journey of challenges and self-discovery, but Alexandra Girdwood wouldn't have it any other way.
The 21-year-old from Castle Hill will face off against Demelza Reveley, 16, for the title of Australia's Next Top Model at a televised event at Luna Park on Tuesday, July 1.
When the Hills News spoke to Ms Girdwood last week, she said that she was confident she had performed well throughout the competition.
``I was determined and treated it like work,'' Ms Girdwood said.
``I took everything the judges had to say on board and tried my hardest. But no matter what happens, we've both had the same stepping stones placed in front of us to take us further in our modelling careers.''
Ms Girdwood deferred her science degree and entered the competition, and a house of 12 other young modelling hopefuls, in January.
The girls were filmed for up to 12 hours a day participating in challenges and photo shoots for the competitions reality television show.
``It taught me to be thick-skinned,'' Ms Girdwood said.
``It's fun getting dressed up and it seems glamorous, but there are long days and it's hard work. You have to be strong both physically and mentally.''
Regardless of tonight's result, Ms Girdwood said she hopes her involvement in the show will lead to future modelling work, which she would like to pursue in
Australia and overseas.
``My look is not typically beautiful, it's more high fashion and editorial. Demelza is commercially gorgeous, but I think she needs more life experience. She is still in high school and I think that may hold her back,'' Ms Girdwood said. ``But it's fifty-fifty. I can justify why each of us should win.''
Tonight's winner will receive a modelling contract, a trip to New York, a car, a contract as the face of make-up brand Napoleon Perdis and an eight-page fashion feature with Vogue Australia.
