THERE were brawls, knockouts and dismissals when the Sydney Ice Dogs went toe to toe with the Gold Coast at Sydney Ice Arena on Sunday.
More important, there were goals lots of them as the Dogs produced the ice hockey they've been threatening to do in the national league's opening rounds.
The Dogs scored in the first minute and even captain Brett Thomas's ejection for fighting halfway through the first period didn't stop the Dogs' momentum.
They led 6-1 and didn't relent, as punishing hits and more goals extended the lead to 9-2.
The Bluetongues tried fighting their way back but one Gold Coast player was
knocked out by Dogs' veteran Andrew White and another was left sore after an altercation with David Dunwoodie.
As Gold Coast only travel to Sydney once during the season, the game was worth double points, putting the Dogs third in the League.
They should be even higher but threw away a win against premiers, the Penrith Bears on Thursday night. The final score was 6-5.
The Ice Dogs play Canberra Knights at the Sydney Ice Arena on Sunday at 5.45pm.
