THE Bernie Mullane Sports Complex at Kellyville was a hive of activity last week.
That's where the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association Boys' Football Championships were held from Tuesday to Thursday and 14 regional teams from across the state competed in the all-important annual championships.
The Sydney West team had the most The Hills representatives: Leeland Brown (North Rocks Primary School), Zac Sfiligoi (Murray Farm), Adam Berry (Glenhaven) and Charlie Ingle (Crestwood). However, the team didn't have the best finish. They placed eighth.
Sydney North and Combined Independent Schools were the eventual joint winners, finishing with a nil-all draw.
Pacific Hills Christian School's Connor Stewart and Hills Grammar's Mitchell McComasky represented CIS, and Dural's Shayne D'Cunha represented Sydney North.
Shayne went one better at the championships. He was named in the NSW PSSA State team, which plays in the national carnival in Melbourne, September1 to 12.
Carnival manager Glen Fairclough described the three-day competition as a ``huge success.'' ``These are really talented young boys and to play at this level is a huge achievement,'' he said.
Fairclough said the competition would assist the boys to move into elite football.
Current Socceroos players Brett Emerton, Tim Cahill, Luke Wiltshire and Harry Kewell were all NSW PSSA representatives.
