Swifts on target for title

THERE'S never a dull moment in sport it's been another jam-packed week of exciting sporting adventures and achievements.

The NSW Swifts, led by Castle Hill goal shooter Catherine Cox, are close to wrapping up their season in the ANZ Championships. There are only two rounds left before the final fever heats up on the court.

Last night they headed into round 13 of competition at Vodafone Arena in Melbourne against the Melbourne Vixens. The NSW girls were aiming for their sixth consecutive victory, a record for the ANZ Championships.

The two teams were not only battling it out for a win but it was a fight for favourable ladder positions a win would guarantee second place.

Last time the two teams met, the crowd was on the edge of their seats in Newcastle where the Swifts were defeated by one goal in a nail-biter.

Let's hope the sensational shooting of our local girl takes the team to the finals.

Outstanding Hills District Hornets

representative basketball players Allyson Brown (Oakhill College), Greg Chaplin and Blake McGrath (Westfields Sports High School) have all won selection to the respective women's and men's NSW Combined All-Schools Basketball teams, which will contest the Australian All-Schools Basketball Championships in Canberra in November. All three won selection after impressive performances on the court at the NSW All-Schools Championships.

Well done, all players!

Dural's Ryan Simpson is carving it up on the track of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championships.

He has already claimed rounds one and two and in round three of competition at Oran Park Raceway, he again recorded a clean sweep. Simpson's latest round victory builds his winning tally to eight from nine races.

``To win my third round in a row is certainly a wonderful feeling,'' Simpson said.

``After qualifying on pole position and winning race one, I had to work hard for my win in the second race, and then in the third race I was able to lead the entire distance and clinch my third round win of the year.''

It's all back down to business for the racing star.

He has his sights set on taking out round four at Oran Park Raceway on July 26-27. Fingers crossed for another round win.
