THE NETBALL NSW State Championships one of the most important days on the netball calendar ploughed on despite some unfavourable weather over the long weekend.

Hosted by Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association at the Kellyville netball complex, the championships attracted more than 1800 participants, 136 teams and 73 associations including Baulkham Hills and the Hills District. Over the three days, 1152 games (32,256 minutes of netball) were played.

``It's a fantastic event for the shire,'' said Carol Murphy, president of the Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association. ``It's wonderful to host the event and see all the talented players in the state come together and play a great game.''

The first game was on Saturday morning and NSW Swifts player Catherine Cox, of Castle Hill, made a special appearance.

Representing Baulkham Hills at the championships were mother and daughter Jodi and Jennifer Adams. It was the first time the two have played together at the championships.

``It's nice to be playing in the same comp,'' said Jodi, who, as goal defence and wing defence, played in the over-35s team, while daughter Jennifer, goal attack and goal shooter, represented the under-17s.

At the end of day two, Baulkham Hills' open championship division was in sixth place, the under17s were in third place and the over35s were sitting in second position.

Hills District's under-17s championship division were placed sixth, the over35s were third and the over40s were also in third place.
